Bluefin Display als BrightSign Controlpanel

Bluefin display as BrightSign control panel

The touch displays from Bluefin can be used flexibly: The built-in BrightSign player completely eliminates the need for external hardware. Power via a power supply unit or PoE is all that is needed to put a fully functional touch platform into operation. In our showroom we take advantage of this: The Bluefin is used as a content control panel for our video wall. We explain how this works in the following.

The hardware behind the application

In our showroom there are 3 displays, each with a connected BrightSign player. The players are arranged in a so-called synchro-playout, which means that they synchronize together to form a video wall. Each player plays a part of the whole picture. The application, which already sets impressive accents without the Bluefin, was still not enough for us.
Based on the synchroplayout we wanted to realize a control of the content by touch.

This is where the Bluefin Display comes into play: Since the device already has a BrightSign on board, it offers us the full range of versatile BrightSign commands, which make a wide variety of controls possible.

Simpler solution than expected: The UDP commands

The BrightSign players, which communicate with each other via sync commands, form a functioning, independent system. Now the task is to control this more complex programming from the Bluefin. This is easier than many might imagine: since the master player has complete responsibility for the other two players, only this player needs to be given a command. The "slave players" automatically adapt to the master player's default.

To do this, we take advantage of a key benefit: BrightSign supports sending and receiving UDP commands over the network in a very simple way. These can be included and named directly in the BrightAuthor in the presentation.

UDP Command mit BrightSign

It is thus possible to store various UDP reactions in the master, which are subsequently triggered by a sent UDP command of the Bluefin. For this, the devices only have to be in the same network.

The Story Goes On

The Bluefin display is ideal for implementing versatile controls via touch. The device can also be used beyond UPD commands: By means of complementary sensors and actuators, lighting as well as NFC technology, the range of triggers can be expanded at will. With our software Intuiface can even natively control Phillips Hue lamps as well as different web triggers. Thus, the Bluefin can even become an independent room control. Thus, there are no limits to creativity.
