Interactive BrightSign livestreams for the moving Galliker model
A model with a lasting wow effect: Our customer Schär Modellbau took on the project management for the construction of a model of the Galliker plant in Altishofen Lucerne for Galliker Transport AG and the Museum of Transport Lucerne. Smartronic, our partner in Schönenwerde, took care of the electronic control and sensor technology in the model. Media Solutions was the contact in the project for the integration of the BrightSign Media Player and supported the integrators as Distributor Plus. The exciting interface between the three companies produced a remarkable result: An interactive, highly detailed presentation of the Galliker Industrial Park now stands in the Museum of Transport in Lucerne, providing exciting insights into the processes of the transport company.
Moving model of the Galliker industrial park
The stadium-like structure with a footprint of approx. 2 x 5 meters shows Galliker's industrial park in Altishofen in detail. The main area features buildings, roads with trucks, tracks with trains as well as crane installations. The trucks, trains and cranes are motorized and move in a fixed sequence, which completes the impression of a running industrial operation.
2 widescreen displays are installed in the model, each of which shows a relevant video excerpt. For example, if a truck drives over a certain point in the model, a video of an overland journey by a Galliker truck is presented.
In addition to the displays, there are two beamers on the ceiling which, like the screens, also project animations onto the presentation surface. The animations shown illustrate various Galliker customer scenarios, such as the delivery of event materials to a concert.
On the side of the exhibit there are also 4 touchscreens, each with a joystick. Using the joystick, visitors can control motorized cameras, which are displayed on the touchscreen. Depending on the position angle of the camera, touch surfaces are displayed to the user, with the help of which he can obtain information on the targeted area. Via the touch overlay, detailed information as well as short films from the real industrial park can be called up. Areas such as freight traffic, high-bay warehouse, workshop, but also training opportunities are explained in this form.
This allows visitors to find out for themselves and participate interactively in the model. When operating the touchscreens, visitors feel as if they are inside the model and get the feeling that they are on site at Galliker in Altishofen.
Technology behind the model
The majority of the exhibit is controlled in terms of time by the electronics of the Smartronic company and cannot be influenced by the viewer. In this way, the logistics process is explained step by step. The electronics offer various interfaces that can communicate with media players.
The 4 touch terminals with joysticks are operated with BrightSign XT1144 Player. The moving mini cameras are attached by means of servo motors. Since the BrightSign XT1144 Players have an HDMI input, the image of the cameras can be directly displayed live. In parallel, the servo motor sends a command to the BrightSign Player when the position is changed. This way the BrightSign Player knows the exact position of the camera, which makes it possible to fade in the overlays. As soon as the player receives the command from the motor/camera, it fades in the corresponding overlay zone with buttons. The touch function is then completely solved via the XT1144: When the visitor touches the player displays texts and videos that match the corresponding position.
Convincing cooperation
We are very convinced of the cooperation with the two companies Schär Modellbau and Smartronic. The result of the cooperation is remarkable and gives visitors to the Museum of Transport a lot of pleasure. In the project, our positioning as Distributor Plus became an advantage for us once again: We were able to support the integrators not only with the necessary hardware, but also with our profound expertise and even take over parts of the programming for the partners.
